As a general rule, the exact size of a filter is slightly smaller than the size on the label (nominal size) you order. This is because air filter industry has a loose set of standards by which filters are manufactured to a size that is actually smaller than the labeled size. This practice allows for the small variances in the way air handling equipment is manufactured.
